This page explains, in plain English, how The Gardener handles the information needed to provide its features.
Last updated: September 9, 2026
At a glance
The Gardener is designed to work locally first. We do not use advertising or cross-app tracking. We do not sell personal information.
Your garden and account
Your garden records can include garden and section names, crops, varieties, watering notes, soil observations, and an optional garden location. They stay on your device unless you choose to sign in and save or sync a garden with an account.
When you sign in, Supabase provides account authentication and cloud sync. We use the account's technical identifier to keep your synced garden separate from other users' gardens. Apple or Google may provide an email address as part of their sign-in service.
Location, weather, and soil
If you choose to use a precise garden location, The Gardener may use it for local weather and gardening guidance. A saved garden location may be included with your synced garden.
To provide these optional features, location information may be sent to the National Weather Service, the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Geological Survey, and—only when you request a mapped soil suggestion—the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. We do not request location in the background.
Ask Grandad and photos
Ask Grandad sends the question you choose to submit to our server-side service so it can request a response from OpenAI. The Gardener does not save Ask Grandad conversation history in your garden records.
Premium photo questions send a photo only after you select one and explicitly send the question. The app does not store that photo in your garden, Supabase Storage, or conversation history. OpenAI's handling of requests is governed by its applicable service terms and privacy practices.
Subscriptions
Apple processes App Store purchases. RevenueCat helps the app confirm subscription status, while a secure server-side account entitlement keeps Premium access in sync. Subscription status and related purchase records are used to provide and protect the subscription service.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, The Gardener uses device notifications to deliver them. You can change notification permission in your device settings.
What we do not do
The Gardener does not include advertising or a first-party analytics SDK, and it does not use your information to track you across apps or websites. It does not save Grandad Vision photos in garden records or cloud photo storage.
Keeping and deleting data
Local garden data remains on your device unless you remove it. Synced garden and account data remains connected to your account until you change it or delete the account. You can start account deletion from The Gardener's Account screen and choose whether to keep or remove the local garden copy on that device.
If you cannot access the app, follow our account-deletion guidance. Service providers may keep limited information as required by their own policies or applicable law.
